The Falmouth Old Town Burying Ground

The Burying Ground covers over 4 and a half acres next to the fresh water of Sider's Pond. This was the site of the initial settlement of Falmouth, then called Suckanesset. Here is where the first meeting house was located and the Falmouth Militia trained and drilled.

There are no records existing from the founding of  this burial ground. The only record surviving from antiquity is the transcription of Rev. Henry Herbert Smythe from 1903 which was published in The Falmouth Enterprise from October 17, 1903 through February 6, 1904. Rev. Smythe also made a map, which is kept at The Falmouth Historical Society.

Mr. Bill Houge, Editor and Publisher of The Falmouth Enterprise graciously permitted us to scan the newspaper articles for you.

In the future we will be adding photographs of the gravestones, a more complete history of The Falmouth Old Town Burying Ground, Vital Record information, etc.  If you have family buried here, please contact the WebMaster.
