Methodist Society Burying Ground
This old cemetery is located on the North side of Main Street near the Falmouth Police Station. The land for the cemetery, and the first Methodist Church in Falmouth, was given or sold to the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1811 by Dr. H.G. Donaldson.
The gravestones all face South (towards Main Street), and the Footstones all face North. As we were reading we discovered a few stones pointing in the incorrect position. They have been changed to the proper position. The cemetery is about 140 feet deep and 115 feet wide, and is in good condition, although some of the stones are getting difficult to read.
Photo taken prior to 1898 The first known recorded reading of the Old Methodist Cemetery was by Col. Oliver B. Brown in May of 1970. Col. Brown added Vital Record information of persons born prior to 1850 from the Town of Falmouth Vital Records before 1850. This additional information is indicated on the individual record in this maroon color. There are times when the Vital Record information is different from the information on the gravestone, both are noted on the individual record.
